Welcome to Fairfax Pride!
Welcome to Fairfax Pride
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.
A message from the President:
Thank you for visiting Fairfax Pride! As a fourth-generation born-and-raised resident of Fairfax County, I have always felt great pride in being a Northern Virginian, a member of the LGBTQ community, and an American. My goal, and the goal of the Fairfax Pride board, is to bring that same sense of pride to the LGBTQ community of Northern Virginia at large. Our place in the community is not in the shadows, but actively involved, accepting nothing less than the full respect, equality and fair treatment of our neighbors.
In the year since it's founding, Fairfax Pride has donated thousands of articles of clothing to LGBTQ youth/homeless shelters and halfway houses, held over 50 social/fundraiser events, provided thousands of safe-sex kits to the community (in cooperation with NOVAM), and have caused a stir in the community.
But we're just getting started.
Fairfax Pride's new Youth and Family director, Gina Moritz, has taken the reigns of her new position, and has been turning heads with her attention-grabbing Rocky Horror Picture Show: Pride Edition. Expect to see a lot of Family and Youth-oriented events in the area in FY2013!
Starting an organization like this from the ground up has not been without its hiccups, but we have grown into an increasingly strong organization, with plans to continuously expand our outreach. The first Fairfax Pride festival, originally planned for September 2012, has been delayed, due to some difficulty confirming a venue. We will be holding a smaller mini-pride event this year, however a large-scale pride will, unfortunately, have to wait until FY2013. Fairfax Pride has applied to the Internal Revenue Service to receive 501c(3) charitable status, and has been pending review since February 2012.
We are excited about our lineup of weekly events, and welcome you to join us every Wednesday in restaurants across Fairfax County. Spread the word, grab a friend, and help us deliver our message: that we are going to be exactly who we are, where we live, unapologetically.
Please consider making a donation to Fairfax Pride, allowing us to continue to expand and build bridges within the local LGBT community, as well as the community at-large. Thank you for your continued support.
With Pride,
Brian P Reach
President, Fairfax Pride
